Our second Great Canadian Road Trip is another one-day adventure not far from home. We are going to explore some of Grey County’s most beautiful waterfalls, and they are all just a short drive from Hanover.

The route begins and ends at our location on 7th Avenue, making it simple to follow for everyone. To make things even easier, we’ve included Google Maps links for each destination so you can customize or reroute your trip however you like.

STOP 1: Inglis Falls

  • A dramatic 18-meter cascade over limestone, making it a fan favorite near Owen Sound.
  • Moderate trail, with multiple loops and lookout points.
  • Part of a 200- hectare conservation area.

Tip: On a clear day you can see down the valley into the City of Owen Sound and out to the Owen Sound harbour.

 

STOP 2: Walter’s Falls

  • A double plunge waterfall from a tributary of the Big Head River drops into the gorge below.
  • A powerful cascade that powered historic mills with rustic atmosphere and village nearby.
  • Easy trail with a viewpoint right near the Falls Inn.

Tip: The falls are on private property but viewing is permitted from public access points

 

 

STOP 3: Eugenia Falls

  • Tall, dramatic 30 metre plunge to the bottom of the cuckoo valley.
  • Was discovered in 1852 where Eugenia Falls was the scene of “Fools Gold” rush.
  • Named after Princess Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III.

Tip: Access to the base of the falls, standing on the top of the falls and travelling beyond fence barriers, is STRICTLY prohibited at all times.

 

STOP 4: Hogg’s Falls

  • A secluded 7-meter plunge waterfall nestled in a forested ravine, offering a picturesque setting.
  • Easy, 5–10 min walk from parking.
  • You can access the bottom of the falls with a rope to help you down the side of the embankment!

Tip: Watch your step—roots and mud abound!

 

STOP 5: McGowan Falls

💲 You can view the falls for FREE. $5 Parking Fee if you go into the Conservation Area.

  • A 3-meter-high cascade over the Saugeen River
  • The area features picnic spots, trails, and a charming riverside setting.
  • Falls are set below a dam.

Tip: There are several kilometers of trails suitable for hiking and cycling, winding through mature forests and along the riverbank.

And that’s concludes our Grey County Waterfall Adventure. This road trip reminds us that some of the most beautiful escapes are close to home. From shady forest paths to the refreshing mist from cascading waterfalls, this route offers charm at every stop.

As you travel between this spots, take time to soak in the scenery and enjoy a picnic lunch. When they day winds down, consider stopping for dinner at Pebbles Family Buffet in Varney. It is the perfect spot to refuel after a day outdoors.
